Introduction
Hi there! The Whisperer, as you might have guessed from its title is about a ghost whisperer. Born with the third eye, which grants the ability to see the supernatural, and a companion of a cat, the player sets out in order to help ghosts and people alike. The game is a narrative RPG, but without your typical RPG combat. The Whisperer takes place in Malaysia, during the British Colonization era, where the main races were already present and segregated.
Player Experience
The player should feel like a detective, who is running around, helping ghosts to move on into the afterlife. However, not everyone is friendly, so the player will have to be cautious. Find clues, and talk to people to find out more about your current task. Not only that, the game also has areas of interest, that shows the local cultures, in which the player can experience.
Vision
The game is made to be fun, with a slight taste of horror. The content of the game is made to be as historically accurate as possible, although it’s not completely accurate, so there might be some irregularities. Not only that, the game serves as an introduction to local cultures and folklore.
Origin
One of the reasons I made this game was because there is apparently a large lacking of games in the market with local cultures as its content. Not only that, children these days do not really know much about local folklore, as they tend to read less, and watch more. While most shows often twist the ‘facts’ into something that serves their purposes better, much like Disney, the inaccuracies , when believed by many people, will eventually become the truth, My own younger sister (who is 12 years old this year) does not know much about local folklore, and yet, she’s head prefect in her school, so there were expectations that fell short. My third reason for making this game is that I have hopes that I might curb my fear for horror by making a horror game. Lastly, I’m preparing myself to go indie by making this solo. Its good to have backup plans in case I can’t make it into game studios.
